Winnie’s family has lived in Friday Harbor for 33 years. She is an islander who loves community, relationships, and helping folks. She is deeply rooted here.
Winnie started painting on January 5th, 2019. It interrupted her relentless pursuit for freedom through a shifting idea of perfectionism. The inevitable failure, exasperation, and fatigue of a striving life led her to deep spiritual work, and ultimately to playful release through abstract painting and perfumery. All that Winnie make embodies her journey towards freedom. The work expresses that which cannot be “said” with words – scent and abstraction are her bridges to others, and to life lived one moment at a time.

A mother of two college students, Pamela Hoke has been painting and drawing nature as long as she can remember. She has a B.F.A. in painting from The Ohio State University with individualized studies in Marketing, Journalism and Botany. Her life-long journey with her art has always been focused on the expression of her emotionally intimate relationship with nature, the one she feels we all are born with. She loves sharing moments with nature through her surrealistic, playful expressions of flora, fish, fauna, humans and landscapes. Her work expresses a dance with nature through bold compositions, blended with harmonious, moving strokes and playful colors and contrasts. She also writes, educates and consults on brand design communications that promote the deeper, more harmonious relationship with nature that she senses is our next phase of maturity as a species.
